- What space do we need for the clothing bank:
The banks are 5ft sq by 6 ft high and should be placed on a hard standing area. The clothing banks must be located in an area that is open access to the general public. If you do not have a open access location (eg: in school grounds) our experience shows that the volume of clothes collected will make the location unviable unless you are willing to pay for a clothing bank. Banks cost £700 to purchase.
- We have a restricted site for the clothing bank:
Please contact us if you have any concerns about the site you have in mind. Please note that we need access to deliver the bank and for the collectors to empty the bank.
- How do the collections work:
Once in position the banks remain at the location and are emptied by hand. The collectors get to know how busy different sites are and will vary their visits accordingly.
- What happens if the bank gets full up between collections:
Just ring the phone number on the bank and the collectors will be out within 3 days.
- What happens to the clothes and textiles:
They are all taken to the warehouse and sorted. The items that are not suitable to be reused are recycled into things such as insulation materials and mop heads. The items suitable to be reused are sold on within the UK and overseas.
- What is an animal themed clothing bank:
These are normal clothing banks that have been restyled to appear animal like. For example the Cow bank is white with black markings. They are particularly appropriate for primary school settings. See some photos here.
- What sort of items can be put in the bank:
The banks will take ladies, men’s and children’s unwanted clothing as well as shoes (in pairs please), hats, bags, belts, sheets and soft toys.
- How does the fundraising aspect work:
We receive an amount for each tonne of textiles that are collected. We will pass on 25% of what we get for the textiles to our clothing bank partners (schools, community centres, churches etc…). Currently this is about £40 per tonne for our partners.
- How much does each clothing bank hold:
Each bank holds between 1/3 – 1/5 tonne of clothing.
- How long does it take to get a bank:
The banks are made to order. Consequently it may take up to 3 months to have a bank delivered.
- Who is Wastenot Recycling?
Wastenot Recycling is an environmental social purpose business run on Christian principles. Our aims are to create sustainable employment through textile reuse and recycling. We are working in partnership with Chris Careys Collections - a 4th generation textile merchant. Wastenot Recycling was set up and is run by James Riley who has a background in running charities and social enterprises.
- Why are the agreements for 3 years?
It costs almost £1,000 to purchase and place the banks. In order to recoup these costs and generate funds for the partner we require a degree of certainty that the bank will be in place for a reasonable period of time.
